Ocean of Memories

Ocean of Memories is an immersive AR (Augmented Reality) Soundwalk and story taking place on Texas A&M’s college campus. Inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Life Under Water, listeners are guided through a walk along the water on an immersive concert experience that reveals the stories that students at Texas A&M tell about sustainability, climate change, and ocean life.

Guests were led through the soundwalk via a smartphone app and audio narration.

When asked what inspired this project, co-founder Lucy Yao said, “Not only, we, as artists, have the responsibility of carrying forward the stories that need to be told to audiences. We loved working with students who are open to expanding the traditional definition of being an Artist– it’s not just music or painting by itself, but how all of these different mediums, writing a script for a story, putting together scenes with Visual Artists, working with people who are in Computer Science and Engineering, can all collaborate to make a powerful story for people to experience.”

About Ocean of Memories

To celebrate the launch of TAMU’s School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts (PVFA) and their mission of integrating Arts, emerging technology (XR, AR), chromic duo collaborated with TAMU as Artists-in-Residence to bridge the gap between the Sciences and the Arts to use storytelling + art to tell stories about climate change.

By leveraging site-specific technology, AR (Augmented Reality) with the School of Performance, Visualization, Theater, and Social Impact, “Ocean of Memories” was created to spark discussion amongst students on how to create more sustainable changes as they walk and reflect on Texas A&M’s Aggie Park.
